Like David said, you can't really replace electros with film caps because of the size/capacitance issue. If you're replacing electros, you should use low-esr 105C rated caps.period (panasonic FM and nichicon HE are two examples). Most gear that has 85C rated caps are there because the manufacturer wants to save money on cheaper caps. C0G ceramics are supposedly pretty good too.Īctually most of the "for audio" caps are 85 C rated, so I guess not that either.

Polystyrene (also called styrene, styroflex, or styrol)ĥ. I have heard Polyester (Mylar) capacitors make a significant sound improvement and are the minimum quality audio capacitors that should be used in the audio signal path.Ĥ. However alot of high end gear use these types anyway. I have heard that Electolytic and tantalum capacitors have very poor audio characteristics.

What are the best MUSICAL sounding Capacitors to use or recap with in Pro Audio Gear? I would like to know from the guys who do know. As far as which caps to use or replace with it, I have literally no clue what is best to use in the market today.
